I wrote this poem when I was sitting at the lake of Zurich on a beautiful warm sunny day. I had an afternoon off and enjoyed the freedom of just strolling around wherever I felt I could experience some nice quiet moments in the middle of town. (German version below)
Lake of Zurich
How splendid the water sparkles, aflame with golden light,
Gleams and glistens, enchanting the dazzling sight,
As i sit there on a rock, calmness and peace unfold.
I think about the lakes stories, the thousands of words untold.
A swan, undisturbed by my thoughts, ruffles it’s snowwhite dress
All the problems in the world, it couldn’t care less.
I look around, all is far away it seems
It is almost as if i’m lost in dreams
And then, I hear the murmur and laughing, peoples voice,
Reality claims my attention back, i have no choice.
Awake and alert i observe the magical water, the deep blue,
It whispers: keep on believing in yourself, as your heart is true!
Zürisee
Wie prächtig der See leuchtet im goldenen Sonnenlicht
Glitzert und glänzt, mit seiner Bläue besticht
Lässt mich ruhig und friedlich fühlen
Meine Augen verweilen, will mich nicht rühren
Ein weisser Schwan putzt in aller Ruhe sein Gefieder
Geniesst der Wellen säuselnde Lieder
So schweift mein Blick umher – auf das Wasser, die Steine und Bäume
Es ist, als sei ich versunken in ferne Träume
Um mich herum hör ich die Leute murmeln und lachen
Es lässt mich plötzlich aus meiner Versunkenheit erwachen
So betrachte ich das magische Wasser mit aufmerksamen Augen
Und siehe da – es zwinkert mir zu und sagt: Hör nicht auf an deine Träume zu glauben
